Chilfi Ghati & Maikal Pass
Scenic high-altitude forest pass on NH-30 connecting Chhattisgarh with Kanha and MP.

Editorial Note: The scenic highland pass that forms the geographic boundary between Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Rising steadily along NH-30 approximately 45 km northwest of Kawardha, Chilfi Ghati is a spectacular mountain roadway that traverses the pristine heart of the Maikal range. Famous for its dramatic hair-pin bends, thick sal and bamboo reserves, and cooler highland temperatures, the valley is often shrouded in morning mist even during warmer months.
The Drive & Viewpoints
The road winds through dense forest corridors that form part of the wildlife corridor between Kanha National Park and Achanakmar Tiger Reserve. Several roadside pull-outs offer dizzying views over the verdant valleys below. Local roadside stalls near the pass summit serve hot ginger tea, roasted corn on the cob (bhutta), and fresh wild honey collected by indigenous Baiga gatherers.
