The Historic Journey: Creation of Chhattisgarh on November 1, 2000

The genesis of Chhattisgarh as a separate state reflects one of the most disciplined, democratic, and culturally rooted statehood movements in modern Indian history:

  • Pioneering Visions (1924–1960s): The formal legislative demand for a distinct Chhattisgarh administrative identity was first conceptualized by Pandit Sundarlal Sharma in 1924 at the Raipur District Congress Committee. Later, stalwarts like Dr. Khoobchand Baghel (who founded the Chhattisgarh Bhratri Sangh in 1956), Barrister Chedilal, and Thakur Pyarelal Singh mobilized popular consciousness around the region's unique dialect, tribal heritage, and geographical identity.
  • Constitutional Realization: Under the Madhya Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2000, passed by the Indian Parliament and signed by the President of India, 16 south-eastern Chhattisgarhi-speaking districts were carved out of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000, establishing Chhattisgarh as the 26th state of the Indian Union.

The Name 'Chhattisgarh': Legacy of the 36 Ancient Forts

The regional nomenclature 'Chhattisgarh' (छत्तीसगढ़) holds deep historical and administrative significance rooted in the medieval Kalachuri dynasty:

  • The 36 Administrative Forts: Historical records, particularly from the reign of Kalachuri King Kalyan Sai (16th century), divide the realm into 36 strategic garrisons (garhs), each governing an agglomeration of 84 villages (chaurasi).
  • The Shivnath River Partition: The sovereign kingdom was geographically bisected by the sacred Shivnath River:
  • 18 Northern Garhs (Ratanpur Kingdom): Including Ratanpur, Maro, Nawagarh, Kharod, Shivrinarayan, and Kotgarh.
  • 18 Southern Garhs (Raipur Kingdom): Including Raipur, Durg, Simga, Rajim, Patan, and Arang.

Together, these thirty-six fortified divisions gave birth to the enduring identity of the land as Chhattisgarh.

'Rice Bowl of India' & Invaluable Natural Wealth

Beyond its rich heritage, Chhattisgarh serves as an economic and ecological lifeline for central India:

  1. The Rice Bowl of India (धान का कटोरा)*: Blessed by the fertile riverine plains of the Mahanadi, Shivnath, Indravati, and Hasdeo, the state nurtures over 20,000 traditional indigenous paddy varieties, earning its celebrated title as the agrarian breadbasket of the nation.
  2. Mineral Superpower: Chhattisgarh is the sole producer of tin ore* in India and ranks among the leading producers of top-grade iron ore (Bailadila mines), coal, bauxite, and limestone.
  3. Dense Green Canopy: Over 44% of the state's geographic area* is covered by lush sal, teak, and bamboo forests, sustaining protected tribal biosphere reserves and endangered wildlife.
  4. Cultural Diversity & Kawardha's Link: The state represents a vibrant fusion of tribal cultures—including the Gond, Baiga (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group), Halba, and Oraon communities. In Kabirdham district, the ancient 11th-century Nagara-style Bhoramdeo Temple ('Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh')* stands as a magnificent testament to the state's architectural mastery under the Phani Nagvanshi dynasty.

IAF Sarang Helicopter Display Team at Sendh Lake

Following the resounding success of the Silver Jubilee aerial flypasts, the Indian Air Force's world-renowned Sarang Helicopter Display Team will perform precision aerial choreography over Nava Raipur's scenic Sendh Lake:

  • Aircraft in Action: The team flies four customized, indigenously designed HAL Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) painted in vibrant peacock livery.
  • Aerobatic Feats: Spectators will witness high-skill maneuvers including the Dolphin Leap, Diamond Cross, Heart Formation, and low-altitude synchronized hovering.
  • Viewing Arrangements: The district administration and Raipur police have earmarked designated public viewing decks along Sendh Lake, equipped with multi-tier barricading, public address systems, and dedicated parking bays.

Star-Studded Cultural Evenings & State Awards Gala

The three-day state celebration at Tuta Mela Ground features a dense roster of artistic showcases:

  • Bollywood Stars: Nationally acclaimed playback singers Abhijeet Bhattacharya and Palak Muchhal will headline the main musical evenings.
  • Folk Traditions: Non-stop indigenous performances featuring Bastar's Madai and Gaur-Mandari dances, Panthi geet (honoring Baba Guru Ghasidas), Sua nacha, Karma, and Pandwani ballads by celebrated folk troupes.
  • State Decoration Ceremony (Nov 3): Union Home Minister Amit Shah alongside Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will confer the prestigious Chhattisgarh Rajya Alankaran 2026 awards across 35+ categories—including the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Samman (Tribal Upliftment), Gundadhur Samman (Sports), and Mini Mata Samman (Women Empowerment).
